Coaching within Organizations

A coach can help members of your organization adopt new practices, sharpen their skills, and refocus their priorities.

Ideally, coaching is a three-way partnership between the coach, the individual receiving coaching, and the organization, in which all parties agree on the goals and parameters of the coaching. Our experienced coaches offer a variety of services that can benefit your organization.

Coaching, while different from therapy or counseling, is most successful when the individual being coached is willing to share private information and collaborate with their coach to generate solutions and strategies. All information provided to our coaches is kept strictly confidential in accordance with the ethical guidelines of the International Coach Federation.

Executive Coaching

A Holloway Zaiser coach is an unbiased, confidential sounding board for executives seeking outside perspective on their choices and challenges. An executive coach can provide specific feedback and discuss issues openly without being personally invested in theirs outcomes. This one-on-one coaching can take place in person or on the phone, and can be arranged flexibly around your busy schedule.

Leadership Coaching

We work with leaders to increase their individual effectiveness and improve interactions with the teams they lead. Common areas for leadership coaching include core competencies, effective strategies, and techniques for success.

Business Coaching

Our coaches all have experience in building a business, and can help you assess the current state of your company, develop a business strategy, and implement plans for success.


Every workplace has its conflicts. Ignoring them, resorting to power plays, or rushing to litigation can all be costly and ineffective strategies.

Workplace conflict and harassment create high costs for organizations, including loss of productivity, low morale, high legal fees, and court settlements. The Holloway Zaiser Group can help resolve conflicts directly by mediating between parties in conflict. We can also providing conflict management training and design organization-wide conflict management systems to help your team resolve conflicts internally. (See Workplace Climate Interventions.) With our proven conflict management techniques and mediation services, Holloway Zaiser can help you arrive at long-lasting and positive resolutions to your workplace conflicts.

Mediation is a process that serves the interests of parties in conflict by creating opportunities for them to resolve their concerns collaboratively. Mediation encourages participants to assess the impacts of their past behaviour, focus on the future, and seek solutions that promote mutual benefit rather than blame.

At Holloway Zaiser we use both facilitative and transformative approaches to mediation. A facilitative mediation process focuses on resolving an immediate problem rather than fostering a long-term shift in attitude or thinking. A transformative approach encourages participants to adopt new perspectives, and can result in improved relationships and long-term attitudinal shifts.

Mediation can be a useful way of resolving human rights issues in the workplace. However, internal dispute resolution processes do not take away an individual’s right to make a complaint to the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal.

Workplace Climate Interventions

Companies grow when workplace performance and satisfaction improve. Workplace climate — how people work together and how it feels to work in a given organization — is central to employees’ satisfaction and performance.

Our consultants are experts in assessing the workplace climate of an organization. We start by determining how employees perceive various elements of their workplace climate, such as communication, leadership, goals, decision-making, and change readiness. The result is a snapshot of all the variables to consider for any change to be successful.

We help diagnose organizational issues and design collaborative processes that engage people in resolving them.

Holloway Zaiser helps organizations create respectful workplace climates based on their unique needs and values. We offer the following services that can improve workplace climates:

  • Values development
  • Conflict management systems

We also provide harassment awareness training for employers and employees, and can train managers and supervisors to communicate their support for a respectful workplace and demonstrate it through behaviour (See Leadership Development and Individual Education).

Values Development

There is always room to improve your workplace climate, even if it’s already positive. A values development session helps groups agree on values and develop behavioural goals that will guide them as they create a desirable workplace climate. Values development sessions typically last two days, and include the following:

  • assessing the current climate,
  • imagining an ideal climate,
  • identifying specific behaviours to increase or decrease,
  • developing workplace climate goals, and
  • creating an action plan to achieve those goals.

Conflict Management Systems

Systems help people accomplish their work and fulfill the mission of their organization. In collaborative environments, success depends on the ability of individuals, teams, leaders, and organizations to work together smoothly. Integrated conflict management systems help make that possible. Such systems include conflict prevention programs and training in conflict resolution methods like mediation and fact-finding. These systems build a culture in which conflicts are either prevented, or resolved quickly at source, when they arise.
